Taking place in the open world of environment of Fortune Valley, Need for Speed Payback focuses on action driving with three distinct characters working together to create stunts like those seen in action movies.
Another new feature is the return of a 24-hour day and night cycle, something that was removed in its 2015 predecessor, Need for Speed. This game acted as a soft reboot of the series with Payback being released as its first fully-fledged sequel.
Fans will be pleased to learn that the popular customisation tools of previous instalments will be making a return in this edition. Gamers will be able to alter numerous features of their cars including spoilers, bumpers and wheels as well as upgrading the interiors and engine mechanics.
Story wise, Payback takes players on a variety of missions; ranging from heist to car battles and police pursuits. Gamers will assume the role of three distinct characters, each with their own set of abilities: Tyler, Mac and Jess. Each of the three will have different mission set-ups and personalities.

The iconic Frostbite engine that has been a mainstay of many EA games including the Battlefield series and Need for Speed: The Run, will be returning but with numerous improvements to ensure a fluid experience. There are five car classes in the game and each of these will have its own handling characteristics as well as the addition of off-road gameplay, giving new depth to the series.
